Canadians may get ill in spite of flu shot

For the second year in a row, the flu vaccines used in Canada don’t match the current strains of the virus, reducing the vaccine’s usefulness.

As discussed previously, flu vaccines are formulated to work against specific strains, but the strains change, so we’re always one or more steps behind in the fight.

Another solution is to build up the body’s resistance to the flu in general, rather than to specific strains. According to Chinese medicine, many illnesses can be prevented by eating the proper foods. Mint, basil and leafy green vegetables can help guard against the flu.
