Tea and cancer

Recent research suggests that black tea can help lower the risk of ovarian cancer; earlier studies had shown similar benefits for green tea.

According to Chinese medicine, cancer is a problem of excessive dampness in the body. Black tea can reduce dampness because it has a drying effect. Green tea works in a very different way, but the result is the same: it diminishes dampness.

A more technical explanation for the interested reader: In terms of the Law of 5 elements, cancer is a disease of Excessive Earth. Black tea is pungent and has a drying effect, so it belongs to the Metal element. Because ‘Earth increases Metal’, an increase in Metal therefore decreases Earth, which is why black tea can reduce excessive dampness.

Green tea belongs to the Wood element. Because ‘Wood diminishes Earth’, green tea can help reduce excessive dampness as well. Wood-element remedies are the remedies of choice for Excessive Earth conditions.
